BUPPIES - The New Black Power Elite

Friends. Betrayal. Affluence. Drama. These are the words that BET television uses to describe the premier of it's first web series BUPPIES, which will run for ten weeks starting tomorrow November 24. The series will focus on a young group of friends who are apart of the black power elite in L.A. Now while the concept of a web series isn't new, this is however the first time one will feature an African-American principal cast. BUPPIES will chronicle the ups and downs of this group of friends and their fight to stay intact .

Some web series haven't fared as well as others, but the expectation is that BUPPIES will do extremely well. To start it's star is a familiar face to many, Tatyana Ali of "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "Young and the Restless" fame. And the creator and producer are critically acclaimed filmmakers, Julian Breece and Aaliyah Williams. Both of whom have garnered praise as IndieWire's "Top 10 New Voices in Black Cinema." The overall goal of the web series is to, "usher in a new chapter in African American storytelling," with African-American stars in dominant roles in front and behind the cameras.

The initial episode will pick up as Tatyana Ali's character, Quinci Allen, has just lost her celebrity father and been dumped by her basketball star fiance'. What is supposed to be a party thrown by friends to cheer her up quickly turns out to be the setting for dark secrets to be exposed and personal drama brought to the forefront. And what unravels after will be what keeps you coming back to view each episode thereafter.

We don't want to give away all of the details so for a sneak peek click here BUPPIES and be sure to tune in and make this web series a success, and post here to let us know what your thoughts are.

Ab Rock

This Ear Candy with the Coors Light Music Lounge was certainly not one to miss!

The evenin
g started out with Baltimore hip hop artist Ab Rock accompanied a group of young men who fused neo soul with hip hop bringing a treat to all who listened. The lead mic was comparable to Talib Kweli in regards to sound and subject but certainly had his own identity. Also a standout in the crew was Chuck the Mad Ox, a local beat boxer who, with his unique sound, helped each artist to convey their music to the crowd.

Chuck The Mad Ox

Chinah Blac’s energy was amazing. The way she interacted with the crowd was awesome. She made the crowd laugh in agreement with lyrics of her songs. One line in particular that had the crowds head noddin was the hook “I never should have fucked with you,” a song about thinking your in love till that significant other shows who they really are and you realize that you should have never kicked it with that person. Her last song was "My Funny Valentine" which really showed her depth as an artist and how strong and beautiful her voice is. What really made this song a treat at Ear Candy was the addition of Chuck the Mad Ox! Chinah asked him to help her and by adding him the song took on a funky, yet sweet complexity.

Chinah Blac Zach & Chinah Blac

Last but not least was Tamika Jones who voice is of an angel. The way she sang made you feel as if you were church and the levels of her voice were as if she envoked a choir that began singing about your pain and struggle. She had a beautiful duet with her back up singer, RayShun. He was a wonderful performer in his own right and brought a male match to her female fierceness.

Tamika Jones

I greatly enjoyed the show and if you weren’t their you missed an experience. In these times of a recession the price for a lifetime experience that Ear Candy provides is certainly pocket friendly. Next time you’re in Baltimore do yourself a favor, give your ears a treat and have some ear candy.
